3 years ago, 2015 to be specific, I was celebrating the New Year in Japan. I was eager to come back to the states in order to finally launch 3 Leaf Tea online. Before leaving, I had a pretty good plan in place (or so I thought), and was ready to dive into a new business territory. I was always drawn to having an online presence since that's where I felt familiar and spent most of my free time. I thought launching an online business couldn't be too difficult. Everyone else is doing it, why couldn't I?
Once I got back from my trip, I started putting the finishing touches on the site and prepared for the grand opening. On January 20th, 2015, with plenty of stocked inventory on hand, I launched 3 Leaf Tea full of excitement. I had no doubt it would be a success. Matcha changed my life, and people loved it. I had sampled a lot of matcha, to find only the best and took pride that I had hand blended all of the flavors. All day I waited... and waited... and not a single order came through.
What went wrong? The doubts came swimming in. I quickly realized that just because something is online doesn't equate to instant success. I needed to go back to the drawing board and try a different approach.
I was stubborn, and I persisted. I spent lots of time reading, learning how to market and learning what I can do better to help my business become a success.
Running a business often times feels like a puzzle. Coming with no prior business background, it was all about figuring out what works and what doesn't. Figuring out what can be improved, or tweaked. Although it's been 3 years, it's still a learning process. There are always things that can be done better. It's a matter of being open to change, and remaining fluid as the business grows.
I can't wait to see what 2018 has in store. I'm thankful for everyone who has helped me along this path and all of the support I've received. Most of all, a big thank you to all my customers. I love hearing your stories and sharing my passion with all of you. You encourage me to keep moving forward, and always help inspire new ideas. 3 Leaf Tea wouldn't be here without all of you.
Hope everyone's year is off to a great start!
